Why are my purchased shares not visible in my holdings tab on Carbon?

If you are unable to see shares in your holdings, it could be due to one of the following reasons:

1. Trade Day Settlement

When you buy shares, they first appear under the Positions tab on the trading day. They will move to the Holdings tab from the next trading day after settlement .

2. Short Delivery

If the seller fails to deliver the shares you purchased, the exchange will attempt to buy the shares from the market on your behalf through an auction. This may cause a delay in the shares appearing in your holdings.

  • If the exchange successfully purchases the shares, they will be credited to your holdings.
  • If the exchange is unable to procure the shares, you will receive a cash compensation (share value plus penalty charged to the seller). In this case, the shares will not appear in your holdings, but the amount will be credited to your cash ledger.

3. Suspended or Delisted Shares

Shares of companies that are suspended from trading or delisted from exchanges cannot be traded and may not appear in your portfolio. However, they can still be viewed in the Holdings Report available in the back-office system.

4. Corporate Actions

Shares received due to corporate actions such as stock splits or bonus issues may not appear immediately after the record date. They will be reflected in your holdings once they are credited to your Demat account.

5. Off-Market Transfers

If you have gifted shares or completed an off-market transfer, those shares will no longer appear in your holdings.

6. Surveillance Indicators

Stocks placed under GSM Stage 3 or higher may not be available for trading on the platform. However, you will still be able to view them in your holdings through the back-office system.

7. Regulatory Freeze

If shares are frozen by a regulatory authority (for example due to compliance or investigation), they will not appear in your active holdings.

8. KYC Issues

If your KYC details are incomplete or not updated, your holdings may not be visible or available for trading until the KYC is completed.

9. Trading Window Restrictions

If you are a designated employee or officer of a listed company, you may not be allowed to trade in your company’s shares during specific trading window closure periods. During such periods, these shares may not appear in your holdings for trading.

10. IPO Shares

Shares allotted through an IPO will only appear in your portfolio after the company is officially listed on the exchange. Trading can begin once the listing process is completed.
