What is a Basic Services Demat Account (BSDA) and how can you open one at 021 Trade? Find a clear answer in this FAQ by 021 Trade.
Basic Services Demat Account (BSDA)
A Basic Services Demat Account (BSDA) is designed to reduce maintenance costs for small investors by offering lower or zero Annual Maintenance Charges (AMC) based on the value of holdings. As per SEBI guidelines, a BSDA can be held only by individuals who have one demat account (single or joint) across all depositories, and the value of holdings in that account must not exceed โน10 lakh.
At 021 Trade, all new client demat accounts are opened under the BSDA category by default. Based on the details received from CDSL, accounts that do not meet the BSDA eligibility criteria are converted from BSDA to a regular (non-BSDA) account.
You can open a BSDA by selecting the BSDA option while filling out the demat account opening form, either online through the account opening portal or offline by submitting the physical form. If you already have a regular demat account with 021 Trade, you can request a conversion to BSDA by submitting a signed BSDA conversion form, provided you meet the SEBI eligibility criteria.
